Election of a New Board of Directors
Introducing
our first elected Board of Directors:
Judi Adema from Smithers, BC; Juliana Barnard from Halifax, NS;
Lisa Decandia from Toronto, ON; Barbara Etcovitch from Montreal, QC;
Brenda Malin from the Battlefords, SK; Rami Shami from Mississauga, ON;
and Jo Twiss from White Rock, BC.
For
more information about these individuals and their positions on the new
Board see http://www.csoh.ca/CSH_Board_of_Directors.htm.
2.
Annual Membership Drive
This
is the time of year when your membership comes up for renewal.
Membership dues in all categories will remain the same this year
and again, CSH is offering an Earlybird discount, now effective until
January 31, 2007.
Look
for your membership renewal package in the mail or check our website at http://www.csoh.ca/Membership.htm
for details about membership benefits and requirements in 2007.
Please note that for new applicants, the criteria for Registered
membership in 2007 will require fulfillment of Individual Assessments
(see http://www.csoh.ca/Membership_Requirements_for_Registration.htm
for details).
In response to several recent queries, it is still possible for Student
Members to upgrade to Registered status under the 2006 guidelines as
long as your application is dated before the end of the year.
This method will avoid the 2007 Individual Assessment requirements.
However because it involves paying for registration in 2006 plus
renewal in 2007, the combined cost will be at least $20 more than if you
waited until 2007 to apply for Registered membership.
Individuals
wishing to apply now for Registered membership can do so by completing the
form available at http://www.csoh.ca/Forms_2006.pdf.
3.
Legal Fund Approved
In
an e-mail vote ending December 4th, CSH Voting Members approved
the Board’s proposals for the Legal Fund, including a funding formula
based on $30 per Registered Member.
The Board sends thanks to the six members who volunteered to participate
on the Legal Fund committee, which will advise the Board on investments
and distribution of the funds!
4.
Introducing ONTARIO SOCIETY OF HOMEOPATHS
The
Ontario Society of Homeopaths (OSH) was founded last summer, primarily to
provide a voice at the provincial level for non-medically trained
homeopaths and their concerns about the recommendations in the HPRAC
Report. The Founding Board
members are Karen Wehrstein (President) and Liz Henderson, Christine
Jambrosic, and Karen Jonas.
OSH
also was created to become an Affiliate organization with CSH, which
Voting Members in Ontario subsequently endorsed overwhelmingly in an
e-mail vote. More recently,
our two organizations have signed a Letter of Agreement that will guide us
in future negotiations.
An
immediate result of the Affiliate agreement grants additional OSH
membership to all CSH members living in Ontario (similar to the
arrangement with West Coast Homeopathic Society for our BC members).
We welcome OSH as an Affiliate organization (pending) and are pleased to
be able to offer additional membership in the OSH to our Ontario members.

HOMEOPATHIC NEWS
1.
Professional Regulation in Ontario
Last
week the Ontario government presented Bill 171 to the Legislature, which includes
provisions that would regulate all homeopaths in Ontario under a joint
professional College of Naturopaths and Homeopaths.
Enactment of such legislation would have a seriously detrimental effect on
the practice of homeopathy across Canada and thus CSH will take an active
role in opposing it.
Updates regarding this bill and the CSH response to it will be posted on
our website as they arise.
C.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
1.
Advertising Manager
Did
you know that production costs of our newsletter Homeopathy Now
are completely funded by advertising revenue?
That’s why a key component of the newsletter team has always been
the position of Advertising Manager.
CSH
seeks an organized and enthusiastic person with good communication skills
and daily access to the internet to fill the position of Advertising
Manager. Familiarity with
accounts receivable is an asset. Responsibilities
involve:
a) Ongoing: Answering a
few e-mail enquiries throughout each month, initiating a few contacts,
and ensuring that accounts are paid and renewed on time.
b) During the 2 weeks prior to the advertising deadline: Sending
a bulk reminder to all advertisers about updating their ads and then
keeping track of them as they come in.
This
is an opportunity for someone who is keen about homeopathy to make a real
difference towards promoting homeopathy in Canada.
Please contact our office at 604-803-9242 or homeopathy@csoh.ca
if you are interested in taking on this position.
D.
