CSH NEWS
1.
Let’s Talk!: Tuesday,
July 10
Announcing the first in a series of hour-long teleconferences
with Board members about subjects of interest to our members.
All CSH members are invited to join us to become better informed
about the Society and connect with other members across the country.
The topic of our first Let’s Talk teleconference is Regulation of
homeopathy in Ontario. If
you have any questions about this topic, please send them in advance to letstalk@csoh.ca. These questions will form the basis of our presentation,
although impromptu questions may be answered as time permits.
Scheduling of the Let’s Talk teleconferences will be staggered at
various times and days of the week.
Our first teleconference is scheduled for Tuesday, July 10,
starting at 5 pm Pacific, 6 pm Mountain, 7 pm Central (including SK), 8
pm Eastern, 9 pm Atlantic.
Please note that this
teleconference is reserved for CSH members only.
To reserve a line, send an e-mail to homeopathy@csoh.ca
with the Subject line “July
Teleconference Reservation” and you will be sent dial-up instructions.
Although the teleconferencing service will be free, long-distance
charges to Iowa will apply.
2.
Board Changes
The Board is pleased
to introduce Gaela Nelson from Nepean, ON, who has joined us as
Secretary and head of the National & Provincial Political Action
portfolios. Gaela replaces
Rami Shami who stepped down due to other commitments.
We thank Rami for his enthusiasm and participation and welcome
Gaela in his stead.
For more information about your Board members and their positions on the
new Board see http://www.csoh.ca/CSH_Board_of_Directors.htm.
3.
Professional Regulation in Ontario
News on the
Political Action front is mixed. In
mid-May, the Ontario government withdrew its original proposal to create
a combined College of Naturopaths and Homeopaths.
However, in its place the government proposed two separate
colleges under similar conditions and this legislation, contained in the
massive Bill 171, passed into law as of June 4, 2007.
The new Homeopathy Act calls for the formation of a Transitional
Council that will develop and implement regulations, by-laws, and
policies relating to the practice of homeopathy in Ontario.
As many as nine individuals from the homeopathic community will
be appointed to this council and notice of these positions will be
posted on the Public Appointments Secretariat website at http://www.pas.gov.on.ca/scripts/en/home.asp.
Although all Ontario residents
are eligible to apply at any time for a position on the homeopathic
Transitional Council, we advise CSH members to wait until more details
are released before submitting an application.
In this way, applications from our members can be tailored to
reflect the specific requirements of the positions.
Your Board continues to monitor developments relating to the Homeopathy
Act and we will inform all CSH members in Ontario when the positions
for the Transitional Council have been posted.
Please let us know if you are interested in participating in this
process so that we can support and encourage you.
At the same time, however, we are concerned that the Transitional
Council may not reflect the diversity within the homeopathic profession
in Ontario. As a result,
the Board is also investigating alternatives should they become
necessary.
For up-to-date information on the regulatory situation in Ontario, refer
regularly to our Updates webpage at http://www.csoh.ca/PA_Regulation_Ontario_Updates.htm.
4.
Another Popular HAW
This year’s
Homeopathy Awareness Week (HAW) was another success, with at least 50
events and promotions held across the country.
The Board sends thanks to HAW Coordinator Diane Louie who brought
it all together and to our many members who helped increase homeopathy
awareness in their own communities!
Details and photos have been posted on the HAW
webpage.
5.

WCHS Conference
West Coast
Homeopathic Society reports another lively and informative annual
conference and AGM was held in Vancouver on Saturday, April 28.
Keynote speakers were Karen Allen, who elaborated on case
analysis techniques, and Jo Twiss (filling in for Judi Adema), who
presented an introduction to CSH entitled Professional Standards for
Professional Homeopaths.
The following day WCHS sponsored a full-day post conference seminar with
Karen Allen entitled Individualizing the Case: Case Analysis to
Improve Your Practice and Prepare for CHC Certification.
Feedback from this event was so positive that another
post-conference seminar is planned for 2008.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Newsletter Distribution Team
We
are still looking for two volunteers to distribute (mail) our quarterly
newsletter, Homeopathy Now.
This is a great opportunity for two CSH members to provide an
important service to the Society, to earn Professional Development
Credits (PDCs), and to be the first to view each issue as soon as it has
been printed!
The
combined position requires two organized and enthusiastic persons to
work together to stuff, sort, bundle, label, and deliver envelopes to a
postal depot.
Specific
duties involve receiving the newsletters after printing (via courier);
preparing envelopes for mailing (affixing labels, inserting contents);
sorting the envelopes by postal code; bundling and labelling envelopes
according to Canada Post guidelines; filling out the online Publications
Mail form; and delivering the bundled envelopes in special boxes to your
nearest Canada Post commercial depot.
Transportation (car or van) and proximity to a commercial postal
facility will be required.
This is an opportunity for two CSH members to make a real
difference towards supporting our Society and promoting homeopathy in
Canada! Please contact our
