1.  Attention Registered Members!
Editing on the printed version of the 2007 Directory of Registered Homeopathsis underway.  As last year, 5,000 copies will be printed and distributed across Canada and to some of our international contacts, providing a cost-effective means of promoting your practice to other professionals and the public.

Please assist us with the editing project by checking that:
     a)  You are a paid-up member for 2007; and
     b)  Your website listing is accurate and up-to-date (this version is used for the final proof reading).

If your website listing needs changing, please send details to web@csoh.ca.

Only 2007 Registered Members in good standing will be included in this Directory.  If you have not yet renewed your membership, contact our office at homeopathy@csoh.ca as soon as possible.

2.  Let’s Talk! Teleconference
The topic of our first Let’s Talk! teleconference was Regulation of homeopathy in Ontario.  Highlights of the discussion can be accessed from the Let’s Talk! webpage.

Our next Let’s Talk! teleconference will be held on Wednesday, November 21st, starting at 5 pm Pacific, 6 pm Mountain, 7 pm Central (including SK), 8 pm Eastern, 9 pm Atlantic.  The topic will be Professional Development Credits – if you have any questions about this topic, please send them in advance to letstalk@csoh.ca.  These questions will form the basis of our presentation, although impromptu questions may be answered as time permits.

Please note that this teleconference is reserved for CSH members only.  To reserve a line, send an e-mail to homeopathy@csoh.ca with the Subject line “October Teleconference Reservation” and you will be sent dial-up instructions about 3 days prior to the event.  Although the teleconferencing service will be free, long-distance charges to Iowa will apply.

C.  HOMEOPATHIC NEWS

1.  Regulation in Ontario
Professional homeopaths in Ontario are understandably concerned about the potential impact of government regulation on their ability to practice in the future.  In particular, several have been in touch with our office about rumours that they must register with certain groups this year in order to be grandfathered into the new college later on.

According to a reliable contact in the Ontario government, this is inaccurate.  For one thing, there is no guarantee that grandfathering will be accepted – only the Transitional Council can make that decision.  For another, if grandfathering is accepted, the specific terms will be among many decisions made over the next several years by the Transitional Council, positions for which have not even been posted.

We have been told that, if the Council does choose the grandfathering option, registered members from all professional organizations should have equal opportunity.  Should an association believe that their members are being unfairly represented on the Transitional Council, it can bring the matter to the attention of the Minister of Health, who can either encourage the Council to act more inclusively or dissolve the Council and select new members immediately or some time in the future.

Should the Transitional Council decide to reject grandfathering (as would be their right) their other options would be to establish certain minimum educational requirements and/or an exam process.

Even though there is no guarantee of grandfathering, we believe that there is a good chance that the Transitional Council will agree to this option in order to demonstrate consensus within the profession.  Therefore we encourage all professional homeopaths in Ontario to become registered with one of the professional associations within the next year.

2.  Council for Homeopathic Certification (CHC) News
Congratulations to Jamie Capranos, CCH of Salt Spring Island, BC for successfully completing the CHC accreditation process. Jaimie is a graduate of the Vancouver Homeopathic Academy and has practiced privately since 2003.

CSH encourages all Registered members to apply for certification with the CHC, the only independent accrediting body in North America.  Each successful candidate contributes towards establishing high standards of competency for the homeopathic profession in Canada.

Start preparing now for the CHC certification process leading to the coveted CCH credentials!  Check for details and application deadlines at the CHC website.

3.  New Homeopathic School in Calgary
The Vancouver Homeopathic Academy announces the start of a satellite school in Calgary, AB starting October 26-28, 2007.  For details, contact Donna Powers at 403-230-8505 or visit the VHA website.
